Q. What the heck is a Power Shower?
 
A. A Power Shower is a party meant to celebrate a single woman's first "real" job or maybe her first apartment. In THE SLEEPING BEAUTY PROPOSAL, Genie realizes that having to wait to be engaged in order to get a Cuisinart, new sheets, drinkware, is just plain idiotic at a time when women are living for years by themselves before they get married. That is IF they decide to get married.
 
 

Q. Who qualifies for a Power Shower?
 
A. Any woman who is on her own for the first time or...any woman who suddenly finds herself on her own after divorce or perhaps breaking up with a partner. Also, lesbian couples - who might otherwise not be thrown traditional wedding showers - would probably really appreciate such an outpouring of support.

 

Q. What kind of gifts are appropriate for a Power Shower?
 
A. Thoughtful gifts or advice. Even recipes for one or two people. Think back to when you had your first apartment. What did you need? A toolbox? Halfway decent cutlery? Martini glasses? A fire extinguisher? Inexpensive but tasteful artwork to decorate the walls? The point is not to go all out with your wallet, but your heart. Tell her you're there for her when nights get lonely...or when the toilet overflows.
 


Q. How do I nominate someone for a Power Shower?
 
A. Just write to Sarah at shower@sarahstrohmeyer.com and state, in three hundred words or less, why the woman you're thinking of deserves a Power Shower. The deadline for submissions is May 31. Make sure to include a snail mail address and telephone number so we can get in touch with you.
